About

I hail from the great North East, but spent all of my career in working in Birmingham then London.
I spent the first 16 years of my pre-electrical career working on corporate projects with the predecesor of Network Rail involved with telecomms infrastructure upgrades before moving to the BBC as a Project Manager on property refurbishment projects. Most of those projects involved working with 3rd party construction companies as well as internal clients and stakeholders.

Then came my Domestic Electrician career where in my 15+ years I’ve pushed to create the best and safest electrical upgrades and rewires (including numerous kitchen and bathroom installations), strategically and methodically resolved countless issues and outages, and become an advocate of electrical safety awareness and best practice.
And then I’ve encountered all sorts of ‘interesting’ workmanship by domestic builders, particularly around questionable or unsafe electrical installations that I’ve been asked to make safe.

Then there was my own home rebuild project where even I became a sucker to (what turned out to be) a ‘tricky’ builder. Once bitten, twice shy as they say!
I’m very familiar with commercial and domestic construction methodologies and practices, and have a sharp eye for details and safety critical issues across the broad spectrum of build and refurbishment.

Unlike many ‘advice websites’, I’m not a journalist regurgitating others’ advice – the advice given in these articles is based on my 32 years of professional experience in these areas of building and construction, and my passion for high quality, safe and compliant electrical installations.
